Honey Dijon Cedar Plank Salmon

February 17, 2014 by Julie 756 Comments

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

On Sunday night Ryan and I did little experimenting in the kitchen with cedar planks! Cedar planks are great for perfectly-cooked fish that is so flavorful. This honey dijon cedar plank salmon recipe is a great one to try.

Cedar Plank Salmon

Whenever I see cedar plank salmon on the menu at a restaurant it always seems so fancy and also incredibly intimidating. Salmon is super easy to make and Ryan and I eat it every week, but I’ve never used a cedar plank when preparing the flavorful fish.

Thank you to The Salmon Council for encouraging me to give cedar plank salmon a try! The honey Dijon cedar plank salmon we made last night was fabulous. And so, so easy.

Honey Dijon Cedar Plank Salmon

February is American Heart Month, a time of heightened awareness and concern about heart disease, and when The Salmon Council reached out to me to request my help in spreading the word about heart health, I was more than game. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 811,000 lives per year. One woman dies from heart disease every minute.

Salmon and heart health go hand in hand since the American Heart Association recommends eating fish high in omega-3s, like salmon, two times a week. Salmon is packed with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin D and can help lower cholesterol and decrease fatal cardiovascular incidents.

And it’s pretty darn delicious, too!

The Salmon Council sent me two Weber cedar planks to inspire me to experiment with baking salmon in a new way and the end result was fantastic!

I love love love salmon and could honestly eat it every day, but my favorite salmon recipe would probably be the easiest — A little salt, pepper, lemon pepper seasoning, lemon juice, and a dab of butter! It’s so simple, but super yummy!

We eat salmon at least once a week in our home. Sometimes I’ll spice it up with mustard or extra spices, but my go-to is a little olive, salt, pepper and garlic. So tasty and easy! My dad used to cook salmon with a cedar plank, and I’ve always wanted to try to recreate his version. We’d love this in our house!

I grew up fishing for salmon in Lake Superior, and my parents would always cook it the same way: with potatoes, and covered in a dijon mustard and dill sauce. It remains my favorite salmon recipe to this day 🙂

My Dad is huge on teaching us about Heart Health and ways to eat healthier. He’s had several heart attacks, heart surgeries and two years ago over came Cancer. He’s my strength, so hearing how much he wants to live so see his grandkids, make me sadden that I don’t take better care of how I eat. I started pushing a lot of Salmon here at my house for us to eat. I usually make it on the stove top or in the oven. I always assumed I couldn’t use a plank unless it was on the grill. Good to know you can place it in the oven. I can’t wait to share this with my Dad. It would perfect.

I love, love, love salmon! We eat it every Sunday night for dinner. I’ve been wanting to buy a cedar plank for ever but always forget about it and just go back to the routine of baking or broiling my salmon. Then I remember, oh ya… put that cedar plank on my list to buy!

I found this fantastic balsamic glaze at the store- it’s like balsamic vinaigrette, but much thicker. It’s absolutely awesome on top of salmon and then baked! I would love to try making some on cedar planks! Great giveaway:)

My husband and I make a rub that we found on the internet years ago – it is supposed to be Outback’s “famous recipe” but I’m not sure I have ever even had salmon at Outback! We used Old Bay, brown sugar, cumin, and garlic/onion powder. So good but would be even better made on a Cedar Plank 😉 Thanks Julie!
