Hello from Starbucks!
I am blogging from Starbucks this morning because I have to head back to the gym to work right after I press publish on this blog post and didn’t want to drive 15 minutes home only to turn around right after blogging + breakfast and drive 15 minutes back. Ryan and I drove separately to the gym this morning and while I stretched after my workout, he showered so he could drive immediately to work after our quick breakfast date at Starbucks.
We both love their egg white and spinach wraps and each ordered one to enjoy with our lattes (vanilla for me, chai for Ryan).
I adore the coffee shop environment first thing in the morning. It seems to have a sleepy buzz (oxymoron?) that makes me smile.
Workout
Before breakfast, I completed a workout that focused on my biceps and shoulders and incorporated drop sets. I tried to keep my heart rate up by including little bursts of cardio in the form of bosu burpees or one minute “sprints” on the elliptical. In and out in under an hour!
If You Were To Start (Another) Blog…
I have a rather random question for you guys today.
If you were going to start a blog, what would you want to blog about? Or, if you are a blogger already and had to change the overall focus of your blog or start another blog, what would you want to blog about?
I know this is kind of random, but I often think about other blogs I’d love to launch because I have a bunch of different interests. I feel fortunate that this blog follows my life and allows me to talk about many different things, but I think, in general, it seems to fall in the fitness or food niche. Of course I love chatting with you guys about workouts and recipes, but my life really isn’t all fitness and food and they’re just two of my many interests.
If I were going to start a blog with a new focus, I’d love to start a travel blog.
(Me and Ryan after conquering the Koko Head Crater Hike in Oahu. Unbelievably awesome!)
The way I feel when I travel is unlike anything else. I am a naturally curious person and traveling allows me to explore, ask questions and immerse myself in new surroundings. I think it would be so fun to share hotel and restaurant reviews but the highlight for me would be writing about adventures in various places. Recapping vacations or experiences in new locations are some of my favorite blog posts to write for PBF! (Highlight of my life? Scuba diving in the Galapagos Islands and visiting Machu Picchu last year.)
I’m sure writing a travel blog would be rather difficult though since updating it with new content would depend a lot on your personal travels.
I also have a few other random ideas for blogs/websites I’d love to launch and would love to set up a Daily Puppy-type website that features pictures of adorable adoptable dogs. (I actually already bought the domain AdoptablePuppy.com.) Maybe one day!
Question of the Morning
- If you were going to start a blog (or launch a new blog on a different topic) what would you want to blog about?
Evey says
I want to start my blog SOON! I’m just trying to finish this semester of grad school when more time will free up for me to focus on it. I live in Minneapolis, MN and I haven’t really found a lot of lifestyle blogs around here. I’m a single mom trying to navigate through school, work, hanging out with my son, and losing weight and getting into fitness. I want to offer relatable solutions to people with crazy busy lives. I mean having a kid sometimes means only dedicating 30mins at the gym or not going at all and meal planning is HUGE. I’m not sure if anyone will read it but I think I have a crazy enough personality where it might be fun!
Suzanne @ Mix it Mom says
I would love to start a blog which focuses on the more personal(even risqué) topics of life. You know, relationship stuff….topics that range from date night ideas with your partner to the best sexual positions. How to navigate the first year of marriage and how to keep it “hot” after 20 years. Just all the REAL stuff that we are often to afraid or embarrassed to talk about. I want a place that focus on women feeling good about themselves, and not just in the gym but in LIFE!! So yeah, we shall see if it ever happens.
Julie says
Oh I’d totally read that 🙂
joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
I think that’s so interesting too! When I first started my blog, it was just running/food, but it’s morphed into more reflections on life/relationships (with running thrown in 😉 ).
karen@fabinyour40s.com says
Suzanne: I am looking for writers for topics like that. I am updating my web-site soon and that is one area I want to add. If you are interested in being a guest writer please let me know. Love those topics! Karen – info@fabinyour40s.com
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I always love reading about your travel adventures–so I’d be a reader! 😉
I actually share a wide variety of things on my blog, so I’m no so sure I feel like I’d need to do another? I guess that’s why I really enjoy writing mine. hah!
Kim says
My ultimate dream is to be a food blogger.
If you really want to start a travel blog, why don’t you?! I say go for it! You rock!
Leah says
I just started my first blog! It is about my journey to run a marathon and all the bumps in the road (pun intended). Check it out! 🙂 * roadtoathens.com *
Erin Elder says
Whats really funny is i used to have a blog that was just about my daily life, outings with friends, and weekend adventures etc…. but I found that I wasn’t being realistic with myself and I only posted the positive things, so when nothing exciting happened I had nothing to write about.
So I started a new blog. It’s more of a little fitness diary to document my trials and triumphs with getting fit and healthy… something I could be totally honest with, and yes, some of the posts are negative, but they help me reflect on how far I have come and how unhappy with my health I used to be. What I love about my new blog is it isn’t about how many followers I have, it’s mostly that I have documentation of my success that perhaps someday, someone will eventually relate to. Most importantly I have a place where I am being honest with myself.
I think a travel blog sounds amazing!! A place where all of your followers get to live vicariously through your adventures! 🙂
Elisabeth says
I’m not a blogger, but I’d love to start a book blog! I read a couple of them now & think that as a major reader I should probably have my own, but I’m not sure I really have time to write one.

Julie @ A Life Exotic says
Your travel posts are some of my favorites to read! My blog is mostly travel but I would also love to morph it into more of a “lifestyle” blog because I feel like there’s more freedom to include random topics as they strike you. Let us all know when you launch adoptablepuppy.com 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I’ve actually considered starting a new blog as well, but not associating it at all with my current one – kind of going incognito. It would be more of my thoughts and life lessons kind of blog. Lol I already purchased the domain… it’s my real name so I wanted to buy it before someone else did.
Whitney @ Yoga All the Time says
Great question! I just started a yoga and fitness focused blog and I’m in the process of starting my dream blog: a food blog that focuses on desserts. I think you should totally jump in and start a travel or animal blog. I love dogs and cats and would love to see a cute picture everyday!
Jolynn @ Lift Pray Love says
Don’t start a new one, just blog about it here!
Taylee @ twist me fit says
I agree, a travel blog would be really cool! Especially since you get to travel so often, it would be interesting to hear more stories and see more pictures. 🙂
joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
I love reading your travel posts! To be honest, your bachelorette party posts have been ridiculously helpful for me while planning a trip to Chicago for my best friend’s bach party!
Jenn@ Mark My Miles! says
I love that you already bought the domain name…go with it…DREAM BIG!
Lindsey says
I just recently signed on with 9 other women to do a “blogazine” online- we are all going to write in a general area of our interest but are free to write on other subjects as well. I’ve always wanted a blog but couldn’t pinpoint on general area of interest to discuss daily so I think this idea works best for me. I think your travel stories are always so interesting and you should incorporate any other interests you have to this blog! but I do think you’ve already given us a peek at life outside of fitness and food… your dog, your craftiness when it comes to events!, books, fashion, travel, etc! Pretty well-rounded I’d say!
Heather Black says
I’ve thought about this a lot myself! My blog is called “From here to there..” and originally, my idea was, a lifestyle blog tracking me from season to season of life (not necessarily travel), but when people here the name, they think travel. I’ve thought about re-branding my blog so people don’t get that idea. Although I love taking trips, I wouldn’t call myself a “traveler” because I don’t have the funds to actually travel to exotic and interesting places! I’m usually traveling to a place I have friends/family so I have a free place to stay lol. I did start another blog, but I haven’t kept up with it as well. It’s a healthy living/vegetarian blog, No Bologna. I love the name and I think it has great potential, but I just haven’t had the time or motivation to dive into it. One day though! Great topic of discussion for bloggers! 🙂

My apologies for posting more than once, I’m obviously new at this!
Brittany (Healthy Slice of Life) says
Fun question! I guess I fall in the healthy living/food/mom blog category with a sprinkle of fitness 😉 but if I were going to start another, it would be travel focused as well! In fact, if we ever get on that sailboat we’re dreaming of, I plan to document it via a blog. Gotta dream big, right?! 😉
Anna @ Bridal by the Bay says
About 2 weeks ago I was thinking the same thing (If were to have a blog…)! One morning I just went for it and I’m having so much fun.
When I was planning my own wedding the SF bay area I was shocked at the prices… I was told that it’s almost impossible to have a wedding under 70k in the bay area. I created bridal by the bay as a resource to bay area brides who want affordable options AND beautiful weddings.
I’ve also thought about doing a blog just on my puppy… In my totally unbiased opinion he is the cutest dog in the world (except Sadie, of course!) Check him out on instagram: @amart31.
Julie, you totally should start adoptablepuppy.com…. So fun and such a good thing to do for all of the those pups in shelters!
Alex @ Alex Runs For Food says
I love the adoptable puppy idea!!! So cute. Also I would read it if you started a blog about travel!! Those are some of my favorite posts to read of yours!!!
Ashley @ Brocblog says
I would love to do a dog website, I already search adopt a pet.com almost every week and am counting the days until I can afford to move to a place without a landlord that hates pets.
Missy says
I think that a blog can change with you! When I started my blog, it was called “paths of life”. It was right after I graduated college and I had no idea what paths I was about to embark on and now it’s “Life After Morning Coffee” because life happens no matter what path you take! A blog is a great outlet to talk about everything and anything instead of focusing one or two topics. I initially starting reading your blog for the fitness and food aspect but now I read it for all of the little stuff like “Things I’m Loving Friday”, date nights, and your travels. 🙂
Christina says
I often wonder that, too! I already have a lifestyle blog with a slight fitness twist. It’s hard to merge two worlds!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
I just went to the Daily Puppy and now am dying to adopt Lily the Labradoodle. Thanks! Haha! I would love to start a blog about my day job career, and blog about everything I learn and use it as a sort of resume for future jobs.
Brynn says
I have allowed my blog to morph over the last two years to fit my interests, topics that are relevant and have become more ‘gritty’ – ha. My goal for the year is to be more open on my blog and share feelings, thoughts, opinions and more real life, not just pretty pictures.
Later this month I am launching my second site for my business! I am so excited because I will be able to channel my interest and passion for health and wellness into my new site and my blog can be whatever I would like and feel like sharing/chatting about.
Great question!
erica says
my blog I guess would fall under the “lifestyle” category, so i don’t have a general theme to my blog (both a positive and a negative) but i love the idea of a travel blog!
Krystal says
I’m very new to the blogging world and I figured I’d start writing about any that interest me. I didn’t want to force myself to focus on only one topic. Life takes you so many places how can I only right about one thing? Maybe as time goes on and I learn more I’ll change my blog topics but for now I like keeping it general. There’s just too many things I like- books, shopping, baking…the list goes on and on.
Krystal
Kimberly (Manifest Yourself) says
Great question! I recently changed the tagline on my site to incorporate more “lifestyle” related things. I found that I wasn’t as excited about writing on fitness + food if it was personal… so I wanted to expand my topics. Starting a blog takes a bunch of work, so I just tried to change my focus a bit…and update a tagline.
Aishah @ Coffee, Love, Health says
I love talking about everything, and my favorite things are coffee, love and health (hence the blog name) lol Mine is about my weight-loss journey and its ups and downs. I wouldn’t change it because this has been a big part of my life and falling in love with fitness was something I never imagined to happen to me. It helped me lose weight and I want to help other girls and be honest about the journey because I know it isn’t easy, but it definitely is possible. Love your blog 🙂
Julia says
I think one of the best parts about having an unknown blog (let’s be real my readers are my boyfriend and my mom), is that your blog can shift with your interests. I started out inspired actually by your blog then kinda lost interest half a year in once I got busy with school and recently turned it more into a travel blog after living in Prague for 4 months.
Now it’s more of a what to do around LA and travel blog (weekend trips mostly!), but in reality it’s a personal journal. I love looking back and remembering things I already would have forgotten– like a mirror maze in Prague.
Whenever I want to travel I just go back reread my posts!
Ally @ The Zebra Runner says
If you had a travel blog, I’d definitely read it!
Jillienne @ ChasingRaspberries says
If I were to start my blog over again, I’d probably change it to be focused on triathlons.
Hayley@healthyregardshayley says
fashion! lets be honest, I live in workout clothing. But it would be fun!
Amanda @Fitforgloryfoundbygrace says
If I were to start (restart?) blogging, it would be health and fitness focused, but that’s because I failed at starting one inthe first place! haha. I’d also put a twist on it with my career in nursing. I could totally see you doing a blog related to gifts and crafts! I am the LEAST bit crafty so I absolutely admire seeing all the stuff for your sister/friends showers and other events!
Martha says
I’d start a blog about living in a new city. I’ve lived in many. I might do that when we move back to Colorado next month!
Courtney says
I already consider PBFingers a travel blog 🙂 When planning our trips to Key West and Hawaii I pulled up your older posts to see what you did and did not like.
My blog is new, but after I realized I had been reading Meals and Miles for 5 years (gawd) and PBFingers for 2ish+, I thought about how cool it would have been to have a diary of everything that has happened in those 5 years. It is mainly focused on keeping track of my training, but I also make sure to document a bit of what else my husband and I are up to. My family lives far away so it is nice to be able to share with them as well (granted, I think it has only convinced them that we are even more insane then we previously led them on to believe).
Rachel @ Fairietale Designs says
I literally *just* started blogging, so I’ll answer based on what made me take the plunge. I’ve opened a home based jewelry business, and I really wanted a place to “talk through” some ideas, share my stories and inspirations, and generally keep a record of the process. So I started a basic blog where I can do that. I’m enjoying it a lot so far even though it’s early days yet!
Michelle @ Tales of a Fit Kitty Mama says
My blog is pretty random, though the primary focus is my weight loss journey and finding balance in my life, so I talk about pretty much everything from my cats to my depression. I think if I were to start a second blog is would be focused on giving back… I would like to hilight specific organizations and people who give back to others, especially in areas that are especially close to my heart.
Alexis @ funrunning4life says
I just started blogging, and for now, it’s kind of all over the place and random. I like the idea of focusing on a running/healthy living blog because those are the blogs I love to read. But I also LOVE writing about books! So a book blog would be really fun, I think.
Allison T. says
I’m a teacher, so I would probably do an education focused blog. Not necessarily all about my classroom, but different tips, tricks, resources, etc. to make teaching more relevant and exciting.
Traci says
My family is always bugging me to start a food blog, and it is one of my goals for 2014–I know it’s better to jump in and figure it all out later, I love your puppy website idea, by the way! Do it!
gina marion says
I LOVE the idea of incorporating travel into your current blog as it’s part of the journal of “your daily living.” don’t think you need to start a brand new blog. on the top menu just add the “travel” category. you could also incorporate the current picture of the day or week of adoptable animal on the side bar. I have been saying that i’m going to start a blog for the last year; family obligations sort of slow me down kids, aging parent, etc! I just photograph and write when i can. i’ll post one day! i like your style julie! keep up the good work.
Kelly says
I would 100% start a travel blog! I’ve been thinking about incorporating my past travels into my blog but can’t figure out how to (so far). Plus, traveling has been put on hold while I’m in nursing school 🙁 But I love to travel and originally wanted to start a travel blog but felt it would be weird since it would all be old stories.
Ewa says
I would definitely start a travel blog. I have been to ever single country in Asia in the last 9 years and have seen tones of beautiful places. I travel every 4-6 weeks somewhere and there should be no excuse not to have a blog! Now when i think about it I regret I have not set up one – i have a lot of beautiful memories, good places to visit, just things that are really good to share with other people. Oh well, maybe when i move to another continent next year;)
Sonja @ The {Happy} Travel Bug says
I love doing my travel blog because I have such a passion for travel, but if I were to start another blog…
To be honest, I tried that already. I wanted to do a lifestyle type blog and try out WordPress. It was difficult! My travel blog comes so much easier to me. Funny, because I live every day, yet found it difficult to write about it. lol
Shawna says
ahhhh i’m with you — travel blog, Hundo P. i have had a name for it and everything (for yearsss) and can think of nothing i’d rather do with my life than travel and write.
Livi says
If I had to completely change the focus of my blog.. I’d just post pictures of puppies 🙂 brighten my day!
Lee@triinspiredlife says
I just started a blog a couple of weeks ago and it focuses on the positive impact that triathlon has had on my life and it will closely follow my training for my first Ironman in Lake Placid this July. I thought a long time before committing myself to the blog, but I am excited that I did and I can’t imagine writing about anything else!
Stephanie at Whole Health Dork says
What a great question! And it’s been fun reading all of the responses!
I don’t know that I’d change my blog. Since I keep it as a pretty general health blog, it’s easy to incorporate food, fitness, lifestyle. I guess I’ve modeled it after some of my favorite blogs that always have a bunch of different subjects on the topic of health.
But this does make me think of something I would love to do someday in addition to being a health coach…open a combo coffee shop/book shop that features local artists. Ideally it would be in an active, touristy, but quiet town like Stow, VT. I would love to spend my days around coffee and books and talking to people about coffee and books. Maybe I could have a health coach office in the coffee/book shop and my husband could have his art studio there? I’m sure I could make it happen, but would we be able to support ourselves? That’s the scary question!
