Quinoa Breakfast Bowl

February 7, 2012 by Julie 52 Comments

Good morning!

Guess who fell asleep halfway through The Bachelor last night? Yes, the episode had me that interested. I DVRed the rest of the show and watched it this morning while eating breakfast. I mean who doesn’t like beginning their day watching the world’s most awkward pseudo lap dance? (Poor, poor Jamie.)

I feel like my bed time is getting earlier and earlier. I can’t even make it to 10 p.m.!

Workout

This morning’s workout came bright and early as always.

Ryan and I headed to the gym where we began our workouts with 20 minutes on the elliptical before I did the same arm workout I did on Saturday.

I ended up changing one thing in the above workout. For shoulders, I swapped the side shoulder raises for overhead presses.

I was so pumped to incorporate overhead presses back into my upper body workout because my left rotator cuff has felt sore since December’s bike accident and I’ve been playing it super safe and avoiding any exercises that tweak it in the wrong way. Finally I’m feeling much better and completed three sets of overhead presses without pain. Hooray!

Breakfast

Today’s breakfast was a new adventure for me.

quinoa breakfast

I made myself a quinoa yogurt bowl!

Last night I cooked up a batch of quinoa to have on hand throughout the week and used about half of a cup of it in a yogurt bowl made with strawberry banana Chobani Greek yogurt and approximately two tablespoons of chia seeds.

quinoa and yogurt

I also added a splash of milk to get everything moving which, in retrospect, I wouldn’t do again. It made the mixture a little too liquidy for my liking, but it was still quite tasty!

Off to finish up a back-end blog project that sucked away nearly my entire day yesterday. I have some new blog pages that will be popping up soon, so be on the look out!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

That’s great that you’re able to do your shoulder presses again Julie! They’re my favourite move for working shoulders and I incorporate them into all my shoulder training days. Good luck with finishing up your blog project – I know how time consuming that can be! 🙂

I love quinoa for breakfast! I like knowing it has more protein than oatmeal but I always feel hungry so soon after I eat it. Even if I add PB! Let me know if it keeps you full!

I’ve gotten quinoa in my regular grocery store (Giant). It was in the healthy/organic section… but if your grocery store doesn’t have that I’d try the area with the rice and pasta… good luck!

There’s a place here in Chicago called the Protein Bar that makes quinoa bowls for breakfast! IT’s about a cup of quinoa with some agave syrup, a teeny bit of milk I think, and then topped with nuts and fruit of your choice. It’s so delicious!

try oven toasting it and slow cooking it overnight in your crock pot and adding your flavorings in the morning. it “should” be fluffier and less liquidy.

i try to do it on upper body days when i remember, but i seem to forget a lot. i need to make it more of a priority! i miss bodypump & the way that class always included back! also the machines at my gym are a lot more popular than free weights, so the ones i use for back exercises (such as lat pulldowns) are often busy, so i just move on to the next thing and forget to go back. i actually need to do more chest AND back exercises!
