Things I’m Loving Friday #111

November 20, 2015 by Julie 48 Comments

Good morning, my friends! I hope your Friday is off to a good start! This weekend will be another jam-packed weekend, as we have more visitors in town. My father-in-law and his girlfriend are staying with us and I’m looking forward to seeing Ryan’s dad meet his grandson for the first time! We’re hoping to get out and about and enjoy some holiday-related activities and delicious meals with our guests!

And now before the hustle and bustle of the weekend sets in, let’s dive into your weekly Things I’m Loving Friday post where we all chat about what we’re loving most every week. Feel free to play along in the comments section!

Have a great weekend!

Things I’m Loving Friday

  • Family Cookbooks

betty crocker cookbook 1986

Something about the holidays always inspires me to flip through old cookbooks I’ve acquired from my mother and grandmother. There is something so wonderfully nostalgic about looking for recipes in the cookbooks my mom and grandma used when preparing delicious meals for our family. Many of the pages in the cookbooks they’ve passed down to me are splattered, stained and dog-eared and peppered with their personal notes about certain recipes and that is what I love most about them! I’m hoping to stumble upon a few winning recipes this weekend to incorporate into our Thanksgiving feast this year!

  • Charlotte Agenda

Charlotte Agenda

Charlotte friends, have you heard of Charlotte Agenda? It’s a relatively new website dedicated to covering all things Charlotte. The writing is smart, informative and entertaining and I check the site regularly for fun things to do in the area. I also love the way Charlotte Agenda profiles local businesses, people and events. It’s definitely worth checking out if you live in Charlotte and want to feel a little more connected to everything that’s happening in the Charlotte area!

  • Al Fresco Breakfast Chicken Sausage

al fresco breakfast sausage

I am a HUGE fan of this breakfast chicken sausage! It has the perfect amount of spice and adds a ton of flavor to my morning meals. I’ve been using it in breakfast sandwiches (toasted English muffin + sausage + egg + cheese), frittatas and egg muffins and can’t get enough. I buy it at Publix and have noticed that it seems to go on sale somewhat frequently. Keep your eye out if you love breakfast sausage!

  • Under the Mistletoe Candle

under the mistletoe candle

If you have a candle lover in your life, do them a favor and pick up this candle at Target to give them as a sweet surprise over the holidays. It smells like Christmas trees and was only $4. Yes, it was a total impulse buy (isn’t 99 percent of the stuff  you buy at Target an impulse buy?), but it was a great find and I already wish I would’ve picked up more than one to burn in our home over the holidays.

  • Lost

lost show

Laurel highly recommended I add Lost to my list of shows to stream on Netflix when Chase has me glued to the couch during one of his marathon feeding days and now I am ALL IN. I know I am years late to the Lost party, but I am really enjoying the show a lot. With so many twists and turns and random mini-mysteries within nearly every episode, I am totally hooked.

Below you will find a few throwback recipes I’ve shared in the past that I think would be a delicious addition to your Thanksgiving feast:

Pineapple Soufflé (Ryan’s mom’s recipe – ALWAYS a hit!)

Pumpkin Spice Cake Mix Cupcakes (A perfect dessert if you’re short on time!)

My Mom’s Stuffing (My all-time favorite Thanksgiving side dish!)

Simple Cinnamon Roasted Butternut Squash (Easy, tasty and healthy!)

Bubbee’s Glazed Carrots (Ryan’s grandmother’s recipe. SO delicious!)

Oh my goodness Julie… The breakfast sausage! It’s something I bought a few times last year and then totally lost it and couldn’t remember the name of it because my grocer stopped carrying it. I was googling around earlier this week still trying to find it because I was certain it was Applegate but this is totally it! (My googling history would be so embarrassing to see…) anyway… This is a big epiphany for me this am as you can see. Haha!! 🙂

Oh my gosh, I’m so happy I have someone else who’s late to the Lost train! Lost is one of my absolute favorite TV shows to date, and my boyfriend and I started to watch it last year we’re almost finished ! It IS addicting isn’t it? Although I have to say I liked the first seasons much more than the last, but I still have to wait to see who Kate ends up with haha 😉 My head wants Jack but my heart wants Sawyer. My boyfriend also loves discussing this……

Wow! I Really hope my grocery store carries t hose sausage patties! Ive only ever seen the chicken sausage links! Also, I watched all of the Lost seasons a few years ago and loved them! Can’t wait to hear what you think of how it all ends! I agree with the old cookbooks. I have a few handwritten recipe cards that my grandmother wrote out for me and my sisters. I love that it’s in her handwriting still and I always bust them out during the holidays. It’s like she’s there cooking with me 🙂

This week I’m loving Peanut Butter Berry kind bars. I thought that combo was going to be weird but turns out it is delicious! Hope you have a good weekend with your family!

I am absolutely loving coffee. I mean, serious, SERIOUS love. It’s been so cold in the midwest, and I’m not ready for winter. At all.

I love family cookbooks! My parents actually organized a family cookbook of my mom’s dad’s family’s recipes (my grandma had one brother, and he didn’t have any family recipes), because he had about ten siblings (Big German family). The recipes that have been passed down are now safe in a fun cookbook with our large family tree in it. Love it.

Candles are a must this time of year! We always have one burning in the evenings at home. I love the B+BW candles the best, but Target and TJ Maxx always have good ones for cheap. Speaking of Target, your impulse purchase comment is a true story. I have to pick up hair spray from there and I’ve already resigned myself to the fact that I’ll go in for hair spray and come out with at least $50 worth of stuff I didn’t need.

Oh man, I was TOTALLY obsessed with LOST in college. My girlfriend and I had a standing date to watch it in her dorm every week! The first 3-4 seasons are such incredible television – great writing, great cast, great stories. I hate to tell you, but it gets a little nutty toward the end. I stuck it out because I had made it so far, but many people didn’t even finish the show as it got into the final season. Reminds me of Dexter.

Let us know whose team you’re on – JACK OR SAWYER??? 🙂

I’m so glad you are finally discovering the glory of Lost! I watched it during it’s original run on TV, and I’m pretty convinced it was my gateway to developing the interest in TV that I have today, haha! I’ve actually made a lot of friends because of Lost. I listened to a podcast about the show (The Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack), and have recently become friends with the guys who made the podcast and a bunch of other people who listened to it as well. Because of them, I’ve been down to Raleigh the past two Aprils for the marathon podcast the guys do every year as a charity fundraiser.
We’ve even started a sort of Saturday morning run club for that weekend for those of us that run. We’ll drive to a nearby spot on the Greenway and run a few miles together. In the past, they’ve done a 5k race if one is held that weekend. This year it was only me and two other guys, but I’m working on slowly growing it, haha.
