6×6 Workout

May 22, 2013 by Julie 81 Comments

Good morning!

A delayed morning post is coming your way today thanks to our internet. It has been acting super funky lately and the signal keeps going in and out. It’s pretty great.

Anyway, back to the usual…

Workout

Today’s workout began with 25 minutes on the elliptical. I spent some time flipping through Fitness Magazine while listening to music and enjoyed a less-intense cardio session. Once I was done, I jotted down a quick circuit workout to complete on the gym floor.

Check it out!

6x6 Workout

I completed three mini circuits that included two exercises each for a total of six exercises. I did six reps of each exercise and went through each mini circuit six times. It was sweatastic!

Here are links to two of the exercises that might not be as familiar to some of you out there:

  • Stability ball roll-ins
  • Plank jacks

After my time at the gym, I headed home and prepared a batch of scrambled eggs with mozzarella cheese, spinach and avocado.

Served with a whole wheat English muffin!

Catch ya after lunch!

Question of the Morning

  • What is the best new recipe you’ve tried lately?

I’ve been feeling a little bored in the kitchen lately and am looking for some recipe inspiration! Please share your latest new recipe success!

We’ve been trying to get creative with our favorite wedding gift- our panini press!! Holla! We love it! Two nights ago we bought a loaf of fresh ciabatta bread, then spread avocado on both slices, and loaded them up with cucumber slices, tomato slices, onion, green bell pepper slices, some fresh cajon chicken from the deli at our Kroger, and a small sliver of muenster cheese! (If you use feta cheese instead it’s also delicious!) It was fabulous! And last night we had a grilled cheese and tomato soup night 🙂 easy and light for a stormy night on the couch!

My fiance and I love making homemade pizza but recently we started eating gluten free. We made a cauliflower pizza crust as the base for our white clam pizza! So long as you bake the crust until it is nice and crispy, you would have no idea it isn’t real pizza dough!

I don’t know if you’ve ever browsed on Skinnytaste.com but the woman who writes it has really good recipes that are healthy, but still feel like real meals. I just made this zucchini stuffed chicken and it got rave reviews from all members of my family (including my extremely stoic 21-year-old brother):

My new fave side dish is grilled pineapple and butternut squash! Just slice them into spears, spray them with a little Pam (or other vegetable oil spray), sprinkle on some salt, pepper, and cinnamon, and toss them on the grill. A tasty, healthy side dish for grilled chicken, burgers, whatever!

I have fallen in love with cottage cheese ice cream (who knew?!)

1 cup low fat cottage cheese (I use 2% fat)
1/2 cup protein powder (I use Gaspardi peanutbutter cookie dough)
    1 frozen banana

I usually eat 1/3 of the mixture and freeze the other half for the rest of the week. Great post-workout or night time treat.

Yum, those eggs look delicious 🙂 My latest success has been Strawberry Shortcake overnight oats. Start with a pack of strawberry oatmeal (Brand = Bakery on Main, it has oats, quinoa, flax, chia, all kinds of goodies) then add some fat free milk (1/4 cup) and a small container of honey greek yogurt. Stir, chill in the fridge overnight then add in sliced strawberries in the morning.

What I really like for the summer are stuffed peppers. I prepare the filling with ground beef, onion, feta, rice and various spices, but you can put whatever you want in it. Close the pepper with half of tomato and cook it for 15 minutes on the stove (not the oven unless you pre-treat the rice)
