A Book and a Movie

October 15, 2012 by Julie 41 Comments

Good morning!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We last left off with a long-winded recap of my final day in Oregon on Friday, but since I was traveling all day on Saturday and spent Sunday relaxing (Friday night’s 2.5 hours of sleep caught up to me), there’s not too much to report about the weekend on my end.

I did manage to start and finish our book club book of the month, Thirteen Reasons Why, during my travels on Saturday.

thirteen reasons why

The book is a really fast read and I couldn’t put it down. Though I thought it was a definite page-turner, once I finished the novel, I found myself feeling a little let down. It was good and I was interested the whole time, but I wouldn’t say I absolutely loved the book. It will be a good one to discuss with you guys when I post my official review and your review links on the blog on November 5!

On Sunday, Ryan and I caught an early evening showing of Pitch Perfect.

pitch perfect

Ryan and I both love a cappella music (we were two of the 10 die-hard fans of The Sing Off and Straight No Chaser was one of our all-time favorite concerts), so this movie appealed to us right off the bat! (Okay, so it appealed to me right off the bat, but Ryan was a good sport and didn’t take too much convincing to see it with me yesterday.)

The movie made us laugh out loud many, many times and was really entertaining. One of my favorite songs was the Treblemaker’s “Right Round.” The first 10 seconds of that song were so cool! And Rebel Wilson = Hilarious.

Oh how I wish I could sing.

Workout + Breakfast

My usual schedule resumed today with an early morning workout. Following 20 minutes on the elliptical, I completed an upper body workout. I have a feeling I am going to be a little sore tomorrow!

Once Ryan and I arrived home from the gym, it was time for breakfast.

Pancakes were calling to me this morning!

banana bread protein pancakes

I made a batch of banana bread protein pancakes and topped them with a sprinkle of raw cashews and syrup.

Yum!

Time to get to work!

Can’t wait to see Pitch Perfect!! Unfortunately, it’s not out for another 8 weeks here in Germany.

I loooove Rebel Wilson, ever since Bridesmaids.
Did you know her sibling are called Liberty, Ryot and Annachi.
    I find that too funny…:-)

I love banana pancakes, so I’m sure banana protein pancakes would be right up my alley. Dang – why didn’t I think of that this morning?!?! 😉

Glad you commented about the book – I felt a bit let down at the end as well… saying to myself, “that was it?” Or something similar. Excited to discuss!!

When I read that book a few years ago, I had similar feelings at the end. I think it’s just too disturbing to be able to say you loved it.

I pretty much felt the same way about the book! It was a page turner for me, but at the end, I wasn’t quite sure what I thought. I’m not even sure I can review it! It was such a heavy subject and it was a decent book, but I didn’t love it.

Awwr that sucks about the book! I hate feeling let down after a read. If you’re ever looking for a good book (and haven’t read it already) then I definitely recommend checking out The Art of Racing in the Rain. I loved it so much the first time that I decided to pick it up again and give it another read through.

I started and finished the book this weekend too (well- technically I started it on Friday) and I feel the same way you did….a little let down. I think I realized about 3/4 of the way through the book that no matter what happened, there couldn’t really be a happy ending since Hannah was dead. I wrote my review and will send it to you soon!!

I thought the book was good (I read it long ago), but kind of didn’t understand all the hype in the reading world about it. I hate to say anything negative about it (and I’m not, it was a good book), but I didn’t find the story and message to be hard-hitting or thought-provoking over any others.

Anyway, your pancakes look yum. They look so different from the original pancakes in the linked ones!

I’m one of the other die-hard Sing-Off fans. So sad it wasn’t renewed.

But my husband and I will see Pentatonix in concert next month and I am SO EXCITED. Hoping we don’t stand out too much among the kids (we’re 35). 🙂
