Boarding the Healthy Train

January 27, 2014 by Julie 82 Comments

After a weekend on the road, it feels good to be home. It was wonderful to spend time with my family and such a treat to see some snow in Gettysburg!

But now I’m back and ready to begin another work week!

Since healthy eating and fitness fell to the wayside during our road trip, I woke up this morning ready to board the healthy train again!

Workout

My workout was a super sweaty one thanks to the Nike Training Club app. After a 10 minute warm up on the elliptical, I completed the 30 minute Razor Sharp workout and definitely pushed myself.

The NTC workouts are no joke!

On our way home from the gym, Ryan and I quickly popped into WalMart because we had nothing appealing in our fridge for breakfast and I wanted fresh produce so I could make a green smoothie!

We bought lots of veggies and fruit and I put a bunch of them together in the blender to make a delicious and nutritious smoothie.

In my green smoothie:

  • 1 kiwi (skin on)
  • 1 clementine
  • 3 large handfuls kale
  • 1/2 cucumber (skin on)
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1 carrot
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Fresh ginger
  • Cold water

I also had a small handful of walnuts and a hard boiled egg on the side for some healthy fat and protein.

I hope you guys had a great weekend and have a fabulous Monday!

I had a green smoothie to this morning! I filled it with kale and cucumber and a banana for some sweetness. I used almond milk instead of water and it literally tasted like a milkshake! 🙂

I know how you feel! Last weekend I was in North Carolina and was definitely not on the healthy train, so I was craving healthy foods when I got home.

I LOVE the Razor Sharp workout on the Nike Training Club app! The Nike store in San Francisco has free NTC classes on Tuesdays – you should check it out next time you’re in San Francisco, the classes are awesome!

Lately I’ve been trying to incorporate green smoothies into my life! I’ve been adding a tiny bit more greens each time I make one…but the more I add, the more leafy pieces there are that don’t get completely chopped up. I don’t mind the taste, just the texture. Guess I need a new blender! That recipe sounds delicious though – hopefully I can get it right this time around 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

I’m focusing on adding in more veggies to my meals and snacks. I have heard from several different diet/lifestyles that you should focus on adding in instead of cutting out. So I’m trying to make sure all my meals and snacks are loaded with veggies. It does make a mental difference when you start thinking of how many veggies can I get in a meal instead of how much of this or that you can have.
That workout does seem to be pretty serious. Side plank crunches, wow!

I am hitting the gym and NOT running. My IT band has been on the fritz and I think it is almost better so I am giving it an extra day off before I start trying to run again! Oh and I have been off the healthy wagon because I haven’t been able to run and have been off. So I am treating myself to a week of healthy noms to kick my butt back into gear.

Went to the gym and lifted this morning!

I know the feeling – boarding the healthy train after not being on it for a while feels amazing! I always feel refocused after a less-than-healthy vacation or work trip.

Today I’m focusing on drinking lots of water — I think I let myself get dehydrated yesterday and slept terribly because of it. So today is all about water! 🙂

I’m doing two major healthy things for myself today. My social calendar has been crazy lately so I’m taking a break and resting! I also planned out my meals for the week and grocery shopped accordingly, so I have healthy meals waiting for me.

After a crazy weekend I am also hopping back on the same train! I finally was able to work out today, eating lots and veggies, drinking lots of water and hopefully even squeezing in a nap which would be glorious!

I did my weight training session this morning and I plan on getting a much needed good nights sleep tonight. I didn’t get enough on the weekend with celebrating Australia Day on Sunday and having a Hens party on, getting up this morning was really tough!

I really want to try the Nike training app now.

I envy your healthy eating. You have your greens, protein, and healthy carbs/fats. Great job!!! I have been trying to bring more green smoothies into my day. I have never tried them in a blender I thought it would be too clumpy. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

I’m teaching two cycling classes today & fueling up with mini meals of greek yogurt, oatmeal, or egg whites!! Your egg white /oatmeal pancake recipe usually helps me get through my two-a-days 🙂

I would have never thought to put kiwi in with the skin on! Today I had a berry/spinach smoothie but tomorrow I was going to use kiwi. I’ll try the skin on and see what happens 🙂
