Bug Vac

March 29, 2012 by Julie 107 Comments

I love that you guys are fans of New Girl, too!

How hysterical was Tuesday night’s episode? I know I’m a little behind since we DVRed it, but I was dying! Whenever you have a guy singing Wicked alone in a car and a drunk guy saying ridiculous things like, “The poison! Get it out of me,” or, “I have to go make the puke,” I’m gonna be a fan.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was prepped last night. As I was making dinner, I simultaneously cooked up a batch of steel cut oats with quinoa. We were just about out of both and I decided to mix them together which ended up being quite tasty!

I then refrigerated the oats and quinoa overnight and added them on top of a cup of strawberry banana Chobani Greek yogurt this morning.

Plus chia seeds for extra crunch and fiber!

I’ll be honest, I prefer my usual overnight oats over this combination, but it was a nice change of pace and a fun way to use up the last of our steel cut oats and quinoa.

As Ryan and I were eating breakfast this morning, we spotted a visitor.

A ginormous spider!

I made Ryan take care of it before he left for work which had Sadie all hot and bothered.

Apparently climbing on top of kitchen countertops is an activity that Sadie desperately wants to be a part of!

I’ll be honest, the whole “mouse in the house” experience at our last apartment made me much better about seeing a spider. It ain’t no thang! (Although, yes, I’ll always defer to Ryan when it comes to actually doing something about the spiders.)

Speaking of dealing with unwanted bugs, the other day when I was listening to an NPR podcast, they discussed a pretty cool little gadget.

They were talking about the announcement that the founder of SkyMall, Robert Worsley, is running for the Arizona Senate. They then started talking about some of the fantastic products you can buy through SkyMall. (I actually have an old post about some of my favorite SkyMall gems!) One of the items they discussed was the bug vac!

Pretty cool huh? I would definitely like to use that fancy little tool for cockroaches. Those things are huge and if they can survive whatever it was that wiped out the dinosaurs, I’m pretty sure I want to use something serious to get rid of them.

And now, just for fun, I must ask…

Questions of the Morning

  • Have you ever purchased anything from SkyMall?
  • If you had to buy one of the following SkyMall items, which would you choose:

1.) Wine Glass Holder Necklace

2.) Hooded Footie Pajamas

3.) Garden Yeti (because no backyard is complete without one)

I bought a huge travel pillow that you blow up once you get on the plane, hug it, tuck your hands inside the pockets so they don’t fall out while you sleep, and then lean over it and rest your head on it. It’s awesome and the only way I can fall asleep on planes. And the flight attendants are always fascinated by it!

Hoodie and footsie pjs for sure!

Ok this is embarrassing, but I have the blow up pillow you put on your tray table. I just CANT sleep on planes without it and I bought it for when I spent a semester in Europe. No idea where it is now though.

Also Skymall sells tennis shoes and the logo is a sperm.

Seriously, you can buy that on SkyMall?

I would definitely go for the pjs! 🙂

I have a cockroach killing trick that usually works for me! Fill a plastic cup with water and stir in some coffee grounds. Then grease the inner ring of the cup with butter. Leave it near where you saw the cockroach. The thought is that he will go after the coffee water but then won’t be able to climb out because of the grease. It’s a bit gross I know, but I have caught several this way!

Never bought but I always enjoying looking through the catalog.

That’s a tough choice. I would have many opportunities here to use wine glass holder. We have several food and wine festivals here. But I think the Garden Yeti would be a nice touch to my non-existent garden….

With out a doubt, definitely the wine glass necklace.

My sister and I always play the SkyMall game when we’re on an airplane. We both take our SkyMall magazines and go through them completely and whoever finds/picks the most outrageous item wins! I think I won last time with the “Potty Train your Cat Kit.”

I have the wine glass necklace – For my bachelorette party, we went to a huge wine tasting festival and one of my bridesmaids decided we just NEEDED them. Funny thing is how often we use them now, there isn’t a BBQ we have gone to where we both aren’t donning our classy stemwear. It was defeinitely worth the $10!!

That sounds like a great episode of New Girl! I don’t watch the show faithfully but I’ll make sure to watch this week’s episode! And interesting morning mix! I’ve been wanting to do quinoa mixed with yogurt but I’m thinking some flavoring is going to have to be added since it’s so bland! And those sky mall items are hilarious! I actually think that bug vac thing is pretty cool!

(google them if you don’t know what they are, super creepy) anyway, i had a dust buster, so i just sucked those suckers up like it was my job! my dustbuster did the trick every time. well, i am an idiot, and when i went to empty the dustbuster, i was horrified. um. yeah. the dustbuster just sucked the bugs up, it didn’t KILL them. and guess what? those bugs decided to have bug BABIES in my dustbuster. fbnwekfbkwfsd. IT WAS SO GROSS.
