Honey Dijon Cedar Plank Salmon

February 17, 2014 by Julie 756 Comments

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

On Sunday night Ryan and I did little experimenting in the kitchen with cedar planks! Cedar planks are great for perfectly-cooked fish that is so flavorful. This honey dijon cedar plank salmon recipe is a great one to try.

Cedar Plank Salmon

Whenever I see cedar plank salmon on the menu at a restaurant it always seems so fancy and also incredibly intimidating. Salmon is super easy to make and Ryan and I eat it every week, but I’ve never used a cedar plank when preparing the flavorful fish.

Thank you to The Salmon Council for encouraging me to give cedar plank salmon a try! The honey Dijon cedar plank salmon we made last night was fabulous. And so, so easy.

February is American Heart Month, a time of heightened awareness and concern about heart disease, and when The Salmon Council reached out to me to request my help in spreading the word about heart health, I was more than game. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 811,000 lives per year. One woman dies from heart disease every minute.

Salmon and heart health go hand in hand since the American Heart Association recommends eating fish high in omega-3s, like salmon, two times a week. Salmon is packed with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin D and can help lower cholesterol and decrease fatal cardiovascular incidents.

And it’s pretty darn delicious, too!

The Salmon Council sent me two Weber cedar planks to inspire me to experiment with baking salmon in a new way and the end result was fantastic!

I have two go-to’s: baked with an herb mustard glaze, or baked with a homemade teriyaki glaze. We also love it grilled on a cedar plank when it is warm enough outside to use the grill. I never thought of putting the cedar plank in the oven though!

I hated fish growing up. My mom tricked me by coating the fish in dijon and lemon and told me it was chicken. I loved it at first bite and have been making it like that ever since. I also love making my own sushi by rolling salmon, avocado and cucumber in seaweed- YUM!

Salmon is my favorite! I make it all different ways, but the easiest is to simply use a little bit of mayo (i prefer the olive oil mayo), sprinkle with a little bit of dill and fresh lemon juice..wrap in foil and bake!

What a sweet giveaway! I had cedar planked salmon for the first time a few weeks ago at a restaurant and I was instantly hooked! We have yet to find cedar planks but have found some other grilling planks that do okay. I would love a nice set of cedar ones! 🙂

My husband makes the best salmon! He simply seasons and puts it in the oven but he always adds some “secret” ingredient., which is usually a soy or teryiaki type flavoring. These planks will be the perfect addition!
