Passport Player Treadmill

December 17, 2011 by Julie 46 Comments

This morning Ryan and awoke to the sunlight streaming into our bedroom window. Such a better way to wake up than the alarm!

I usually work out on an empty stomach because I cramp up incredibly easy and I need to eat a good hour before working out to digest and I’m not about to wake up at 4 a.m. on weekdays just to eat something. On weekends, however, it’s a different story!

I usually grab a quick snack before the gym. Today I ate a cup of Fage strawberry Greek yogurt.

fage strawberry greek yogurtI am a huge fan of this yogurt. It honestly reminds me of the flavor of a less-sweet version of a strawberry milkshake. Sounds insane, I know, but it really was fantastic.

After doing a load of laundry while Ryan took Sadie out, we headed to the gym to check our workout off our to do list for the day.

We began with 20 minutes on the treadmill. I did two rounds of my go-to killer incline walking workout and though the inclines helped fight a bit of boredom, I found myself thinking about a new treadmill I read about earlier this week and was selected to preview through my involvement with FitFluential.

Passport Treadmill

Two new treadmills, the LIVESTRONG LSPRO2 Treadmill and the AFG 7.1T Treadmill, are equipped with the Passport Player that allows you to run or walk through destinations all over the world, viewing them in HD quality.

Check it out:

Passport Player Southwest America Preview

As you can see, the Passport Player takes runners and walkers on various trails throughout Southwest America and Northern Italy through video and upbeat audio tracks. It also uses wireless communication to match your speed to the elevation on the screen with that on the treadmill. Aaand your running or walking statistics pop right up on the screen, so you don’t even have to look down. Fancy!

As someone who typically prefers running outside, the Passport Player really intrigues me because I’m pretty sure the views I get running around Ocala can’t compete with those in the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas strip or the Italian countryside… not that seeing the occasional horse and completely flat terrain with the same foliage over and over again isn’t glorious.

I really wish my gym would hop on board the Passport Player train!

Workout

After my time on the treadmill, I hopped off and completed this leg workout:

It felt good to get in some exercise before a day that is sure to be filled with lots of holiday treats!

Breakfast

Today’s breakfast was the perfect post-gym reward.

Load up the eggs and cheese, please.

Now it’s off to hit the hiking trails with Sadie for some time outside.

We’re actually heading to Orlando late this afternoon for a Christmas party at my friend Laurel’s house, complete with tons of cookies and a white elephant gift exchange, so we’re trying to entertain Sadie for a bit before we abandon her later today.

Enjoy your Saturday, friends!

I would LOVE that Passport Player—especially the Italian countryside. Much better than watching a TV show 🙂

I personally like TV shows like American Dad, Family guy, etc. while on the treadmill. Something mindless that I can just laugh at haha :)!

Very cool treadmill review Julie!! I’d love to try something like that, especially since our weather here in southern Ontario isn’t anywhere near as warm and outdoor running-conducive as your mild Ocala winters!

that strawberry Fage yogurt sounds so good! i’ve had Fage’s plain Greek yogurt, but never their flavored. i need to check it out apparently.

i would love to run on a treadmill like this! like you, i prefer to run outside with some scenery, so i’m sure time would seem to go by so much faster on this one.

Interesting. I try to avoid the treadmill at all costs, but sometimes it is unavoidable. And I think that would make it much less offensive!

I’ve seen those treadmills before (or something similar). A hotel gym actually had it (totally surprised me!) and it definitely helped fight off the boredom a bit but I have to say, it didn’t really make me think I was in the middle of some foregin country exploring. I definitely still thought I was in a hotel gym! 😉

I think the passport player is a really cool idea. I personally think all treadmills should have TV’s on them for entertainment because even music isn’t enough sometimes! Nothing is worse than a dull treadmill run!

It’s funny you mention it’s you first time trying the Strawberry today-you took a photo of your Strawberry Fage yogurt that you said you ate the day you went hiking with Sadie earlier this week-you didn’t eat it then?
I only noticed because I LOVE Fage but I’ve only tried the honey so I noticed your Strawberry one the other day.

While these treadmills seem like a great idea, I would have liked to see you use one first before reviewing it. You are essentially endorsing a product you have only read about and I think you are doing a disservice to your readers and the company.

oh, i know! i actually was supposed to run on one and went to dick’s sporting goods near my house on thursday where i was supposed to be able to try it out and they were OUT of stock. i was still under contract to post a review and didn’t anticipate that i wouldn’t be able to try it out for myself before reviewing it, but watched a lot of review videos – pros & cons. i would LOVE to try it though (and plan to), but if you’d like to see someone trying it out here’s a link to a fellow reviewer’s video who was able to try one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cyWm-Y1Uog&feature=share

That treadmill sounds amazing! I am soooo finicky (sp?) when it comes to treadmills so that one might be perfect for me! And I love how the newest treadmills have the negative decline option so that you can train going downhills (this was never important to me when I lived in Boston, where it is mostly flat. But now that I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it’s helpful to help train going down as well as up hills that way my quads are thrashed).

That Passport Player sounds pretty cool! At the gym I used to go to, they had exercise bikes that had little computers on them with screens so you could change the scenery and compete against other cyclists in your gym or on a network of gyms. It was pretty cool and made the time pass more quickly!

I thought the Passport Player was really neat when my gym first installed them, but I was so wrong. They’re awfully monotonous after the novelty of the first time using it wears out. And, it will picture major uphills even when you are running flat which messes with my perceived exertion. Moral of the story: enjoy the tv on your treadmill!
