Things I’m Loving Friday #37

June 13, 2014 by Julie 56 Comments

Hi from the sky!

I am currently blogging from the plane as I make the journey back to Florida from California. My time in San Francisco has been incredible and I only wish I had a few more days in the city to wander around and explore. It’s such a fun place and I’m determined to come back with Ryan one day. (We are dying to visit wine country together!)

For as much as I love traveling (and I loooove traveling!), it always feels good to be home and I’m ready to see my family and get smothered with sloppy Sadie kisses! I still have a brief layover ahead of me, but I’ll be back in Jacksonville around dinnertime and I’m more than ready to relax and catch up on sleep.

But for now, let’s chat about things we’re loving this week!

Things I’m Loving Friday

  • The Stick

 The Stick

This thing is amazing. It totally saved my muscles after last Saturday’s races and I cannot believe I’ve waited so long to have this baby in my life. Rolling it along my muscles feels like a deep tissue massage and I love that I can easily roll it over my quads, hamstrings and calves while I sit on the couch. It’s easy to do yourself but it feels even better if you can talk someone into doing it for you. Ryan and I took turns rolling it over each other’s muscles before I left for San Francisco and I swear I almost drooled. If you love (or love to hate) the foam roller, I have a feeling you will adore this!

  • Brookside Dark Chocolate with Pomegranate

Brookside Pomegranate

This candy is so delicious. I love grabbing a small handful to eat after dinner. A perfect little sweet treat!

  • Hint Honeydew Water

Hint Honeydew

At the Stitch Fix headquarters and warehouse, employees can grab a bunch of different snacks and beverages to enjoy for free throughout the day. (Amazing, right?) During our visit, I think I drank 5,000 bottles of Hint. I fell in love with the honeydew flavor because it’s so refreshing and clean-tasting.

  • theSkimm

The Skimm

Apparently I live under a rock because I only recently learned about theSkimm, a daily e-mail newsletter that shares snippets about current events – across subject lines and party lines – and breaks everything down with fresh editorial content. It removes a lot of the “fluff” and gives you a basic rundown of what’s going on in the world, often in a quirky, entertaining way. If you don’t have the time or desire to watch the news or read a newspaper it’s a great way to get a quick glimpse at major headlines every day. (You can see the today’s Skimm here.)

  • Dry Bar

Dry Bar

I’ve heard the concept of a blow dry bar before but up until yesterday afternoon I had never experienced one myself. Stitch Fix and LUNA arranged for our group to get blow outs before a fun photo shoot (more on that soon!) and I had a wonderful time relaxing and chatting with the woman who did my hair while I sipped hot peppermint tea. I went for a softer look and a lot of it ended up falling within a few hours, but my hair has a hard time maintaining curl and volume so that is to be expected.

Here’s a sneak peek at the end result four hours after we left the salon:

headshot

My end result wasn’t anything too fancy, but anytime someone will massage my scalp and do my hair for me, I am a happy camper!

  • Gary & Kit’s Toasted Coconut & Cashews

Gary & Kits Coconut Cashews Coconut Cashews

I am in love with this snack! The flaky coconut. The slightly spicy cashews. The bold flavors. I need more of it in my life!

What a fun trip! I saw a few updates on IG of you ladies and it looks like a pretty cool experience. 😀 And normally I don’t like how makeup and all that stuff is done on me, but I don’t mind a bit of pampering here and there…;)

I love to see people enjoying Brookside – the company originated about 10 minutes from me all the way here in British Columbia, and I drive past their building everyday on my way home from work. Too bad you’re not going to the Wanderlust Festival in Whistler – you might have been able to pop into Brookside!

You look absolutely gorgeous even 4 hours after your blowout! I look Brookside’s chocolates. Both the pomegranite and acai flavored ones are awesome! The stick used to be my best friend in High school when I played soccer! I was always so sore especially after tournaments and it really helped loosen up my muscles.

I too must live under a rock because I only found out about theSkimm a couple of days ago as well. I signed up for the newsletter and I’ve enjoyed the the quirky yet information style of writing.

I definitely couldn’t live without The Stick! That thing saved my legs last month when we walked a total of 100 miles between Carmel one week and San Fran the following week. It’s also great to roll out your lower back which I’m about to do since I’ve been cooking all day and my body is waving the white flag! So glad you love it too!

One of My favorite summer recipes is a dessert bar that has a base of crushed up pretzels mixed with butter, then a layer of cream cheese mixed with Cool Whip, and a layer of strawberry Jell-O with fresh strawberries on top. It’s so sweet and salty and creamy! As for a healthy recipe I want to bring to a barbecue this summer, I recently had a salad made with carrots, pineapple, cilantro, red onions, and apple cider vinegar. It is light, tangy, and refreshing and I think it would be perfect for a cook out!

I need to try the stick!! So I have finally figured out how to curl my hair without it falling out… You may have tried this trick before but you take the curling iron and start from the stop and twist and release the clamp as you go down (clamp each time) until every part of the strand has hit the hottest part of the iron. You gotta start at the top!? Who knew!
