Winter Boot Camp Workout

December 9, 2014 by Julie 97 Comments

Hello!! I’m so glad you guys are digging Happy Holidays Giveaway Week so far! Yesterday’s kick off is already raking in a bunch of entries and you have through Friday to put your name in the hat. The next giveaway will be up later this afternoon. Good luck!!

Winter Boot Camp Workout

I’ll dive into today in a second, but first I wanted to share a sweaty workout I completed yesterday. It was a boot camp style workout (my favorite!) and worked the whole body while also seriously elevating the heart rate.

Winter Boot Camp Workout

Not too shabby!

Moving onto today…

Teaching + Breakfast

My workout today was planned for me since I had to head off to teach a 6 a.m. indoor cycling class. I really, really love my little 6 a.m. crew! They’re a dedicated bunch and surprisingly energetic and engaging at such an early morning hour. As I took the class through the warm up, I asked them to shout out any music preferences for future playlists and this was the feedback I received:

  • Absolutely no Justin Bieber
  • All Pitbull all the time! (I was happy to hear this because I had two Pitbull songs on today’s playlist!)
  • More country music (<— This one surprised me, but I love country music, so I’m all for it!)
  • No Pink (Another surprise! I think a lot of Pink’s music is upbeat and motivating!)

Interesting, right!?

Once I was done teaching cycling, I drove to Starbucks for a peppermint vanilla latte to kick off my morning.

starbucks venti peppermint latte

It was a venti kind of day!

By the time I arrived home, I was ready for breakfast and ate an apple while waiting for two pieces of Whole Foods’ seed and grain bread to toast.

honeycrisp apple

I topped my toast with almond butter and dug in.

almond butter toast

Now it’s time to grab a much-needed shower before working again (no more teaching today) and then I’ll be heading out to Girls On The Run a little later. It’s our last week of practice and I’m getting so sad!

Question of the Morning

  • If a group exercise instructor asked you to shout out your workout music preferences, what would you say?
  • Is there a specific song on your “never play” list?

I would say please never play Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ and I’d request more EDM. Give me something upbeat with a solid beat and I’m usually a happy camper!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m not a very big Pink fan, so Pink is on my never play list. But I’m always down for Pitbull! And anything 90s 🙂

Ooh this workout sounds awesome! I’ve never had a peppermint vanilla latte! I’ll have to try that on my next Starbucks run.

As for workout music, I like anything with a good beat. One of my favorites lately is “All about that bass” of course!

I really love your playlist suggestions! I had an instructor that used the SAME playlist and SAME routine every week, and it got old really quick. A good playlist can make a class that much more fun! One song that was in a playlist was Adele’s Someone Like You …. great song, but not something I want to hear while in a 13 min standing climb 🙂 Yesterday I found myself singing along to “Love Runs Out” by OneRepublic
    Have a happy Tuesday!

EDM all day, every day! 🙂 However, I used to take a spin class a couple years ago with this super intense instructor and he would play really heavy rock (think Metallica) and some pretty rough underground rap and it was AWESOME! My best workout sessions were with him! My Pandora station is a mix between EDM/House/Alternative Rock/Hip Hop and I love it! Though lately Pandora has been very repetitive… I could also run to any Linkin Park song – somehow it’s easier for me to find the beat in their songs and stick with it!

There’s a new Christina Agulara song that they played at my Zumba – it’s so great to move to! Now I can’t remember the name.

I like angry stuff when I’m trying to push through a tough workout. Breaking Benjamin, Evanescence, Limp Bizkit. I also love Van Halen. Can’t go wrong with old school Jock Jams either. When you hear a throwback, you can’t help but get excited.

I don’t think there’s anything necessarily bad about Pink’s songs, but they are overused…particularly in Les Mills releases. I’d image that gym member was just looking for a bit more variety!

I’m completely with you on ‘Happy.’ I think it’s one of the worst songs of all time. I can’t stand ‘Can’t Hold Us’ either. I would love it if more instructors would play rock and metal. I know it’s not to everyone’s taste, but I absolutely love metal in particular and I was so stoked last night in Body Pump when the coach did a mix featuring Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ as the chest track.
