No Bake Breakfast Bars

January 14, 2014 by Julie 104 Comments

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Some mornings are more rushed than others around here. Since my work schedule varies quite a bit, I’m able to take my time on days when I am working in the evening, but I knew this morning would be a little more hectic since I need to get out the door soon!

Last night, I did a little experimenting in the kitchen and prepared what I hoped would be a delicious, yet super easy breakfast bar that didn’t require any time in the oven.

The end result was a chocolaty, chewy and protein-packed bar that was ready for me to eat this morning without any effort at all. A great option for a go, go, go kind of morning!

Description

These No Bake Breakfast Bars are chocolaty, chewy and a protein-packed bar that was ready for me to eat this morning without any effort at all. A great option for a go, go, go kind of morning!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 2 tablespoons protein powder (I used chocolate)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder (optional, but recommended for a more chocolaty flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons chopped or slivered nuts (I used almonds)
  • 2 – 3 tablespoons almond milk (or milk of your choice)

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients except for almond milk. Stir everything together and add almond milk, one tablespoon at a time until everything is moistened but thick enough to shape into bars.
  2. Shape into bars and refrigerate overnight.

Almond Butter Sliced Almonds

Paired with a banana, this breakfast bar was one heck of an easy morning meal!

High Protein No Bake Breakfast Bar

This recipe can easily be doubled, tripled or even quadrupled to make a giant batch of breakfast bars to last you through the week.

An important note: Use a protein powder that you love. From a flavor standpoint, I think Fitmixer chocolate milkshake protein powder is seriously delicious and I’ve heard fabulous things about the flavor of their vanilla milkshake protein powder, too. I’ve also used Ryan’s Optimum Nutrition 100 percent whey for years and like it as well, but we are both in the market for a quality protein powder with a better ingredient list (I’ve heard good things about SFH) and would love to hear your recommendations if you have any that you love!

Questions of the Morning

  • Do you ever incorporate protein powder into your meals or smoothies?
  • What is your favorite kind of protein powder?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I use protein powder in pancakes, “fluff” (mixed with greek yogurt), smoothies, and sometimes oatmeal! 🙂 I’m still looking for my favorite brand, but so far I think the Cinnamon one from Cellucor is pretty delicious!

I never use protein powder, but I totally want to! Going to go through your comments and see everyone’s suggestions. I’m always afraid to spend the money on one and have it taste bad!

I use LEANFIT Whey Protein Shake powder – chocolate. I think it’s yummy, but it’s the only one I’ve ever tried, so maybe I just don’t know any better. My sister’s family thinks its yucky. I use it in smoothies and home-made granola bars. I like the tip for adding it to oatmeal – never thought of that.

DaVinci Labs Right Whey, it comes in chocolate, vanilla and mixed berry. It is my absolute favorite protein. You can find it Amazon.

Well, now I’m more confused than ever with all these protein powder recommendations! I just use the Trader Joe’s whey protein powder and don’t love the taste of it at all so often just get protein elsewhere.

    Love the new blog looks!

I’ve been using ISO Sensation protein powder for years and love it. I usually stick with the basic flavours like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry but I know they have others if you like to change it up a bit. I’ve tried baking with it a few times and have always had great results. I’ve even used the chocolate as an ice cream topping as it really is that chocolaty.

I use protein powder in most smoothies especially the chocolate-y ones. I love my Sunwarrior vanilla protein. It’s very versatile and tastes great plus it’s made very well with no whey or other additives that are in some other protein powders. I like that it’s plant based protein.

I use the Unjury brand of protein powder. It’s actually a medical quality protein powder that I got started using after gastrointestinal surgery in 2012 & it’s the only one I can stand the taste & smell of. The chocolate splendor is my favorite, but the classic chocolate, unflavored & vanilla are good, too (skip the strawberry!).

I am not a big protein powder person as I try to get most of my protein from whole foods however I do sometimes like to use it for the flavor in smoothies. My favorite is vega one’s vanilla chai!

Yum! These look so easy and chocolate-y 🙂 Right now, I’m using It’s About Time Whey – the ingredient list is super short, and I recognize the ingredients. The Cake Batter Flavor is delicious! My Dad uses MRM All Natural Vanilla Whey and loves that one too, so it’s next on my list to try.

I use Protein powder all the time. Vegan (brown rice or pea flour) for baking (pancakes, muffins, protein balls, smoothies etc)
Love Vega Brand. For post-workout I’ll use all natural whey protein (body logix) super cheap natural no sugar added (stevia only) protein. Chocolate or Vanilla .

I use Bluebonnet brand. Can get it on Amazon and it has good flavor and quality ingredients. I was so annoyed by so many powders I checked out having some sort of sugar as the first ingredient. This one uses Stevia and it is the last ingredient.

I use EAS Lean 15 Vanilla Protein Powder on days when I lift. Normally 3-5 days per week. I only do around 25 grams for a shake though as my trainer advised. Love this stuff though so much more than any chocolate I’ve tried. But I have to make it before my workout and leave it in the fridge. It HAS to be cold!

These look so tasty Julie! I’ve significantly decreased my protein powder intake over the years because I prefer to get as much of my nutrition from whole foods as possible, but my fave protein is definitely Vega performance protein. It’s vegan, and free of dairy, soy, and gluten. In the past it’s carried a bit of a bad reputation because the old formula didn’t taste so great, but it’s delicious now! Even though it’s plant-based, all the essential amino acids we need are there and there’s no artificial crap in it. A little more expensive than some, but totally worth it if you ask me!

These bars are perfect! Thank you for sharing. I use NutriBiotic Vegan Rice Protein Powder. I’m allergic to soy so I found this one and it only has a few ingredients and no sugar. It is GLUTEN FREE GMO FREE PESTICIDE, HERBICIDE & PCB FREE. The vanilla one is good. Better than the plain. I haven’t tried the chocolate yet.

    Hi Julie,
Love the new look! I love the protein powder I’m using. We use About time. It’s all natural sweetned with stevia. It’s fat free and no carbs. 25 grams protein per scoop. We order it from netrition (which I know your familiar with too.) Our favorite flavors are chocolate peanut butter, birthday cake, mocha mint. There are so many to choose from. If you go to the about time site, you can try sample packs for a couple dollars. We will sometimes put it in greek yogurt in the morning with some fruit and it mixes in really well.

I have tried A LOT of protein powders and there’s is by far my favorite. Great tasting and great for you. In addition to the vegan protein, it also contains added vitamins and minerals, flaxseed, and a proprietary blend that gives you an energy boost.
