Things I’m Loving Friday #44

August 1, 2014 by Julie 60 Comments

Good morning party people! How are you doing today!?

Time totally slipped away from me yesterday. I wanted to pop back in and blog after a round of house hunting with our realtor, but as I am sure those of you who have been through this process before understand, it’s easy for house appointments to take twice as long as anticipated. We saw a handful of great houses and plan to go back and revisit two of them tomorrow along with a handful of houses in a little different area of town. I’d love to share photos of some of our prospective houses but feel like I need to respect the current owners and keep the pictures private. But I will definitely keep you posted on the process!

As far as things I’m loving today, you’ll find the usual list below, but I’m most loving the plans I have on my calendar for tonight. A week or so ago I met a new friend, Lindsey, at Pure Barre and she invited me to hang out with some of her girlfriends tonight. As someone who is new to town, I really appreciate her kindness and willingness to include me (especially since I feel so awkward initiating plans with new people!) and am looking forward to heading out to dinner and a local play with a few new friends tonight.

House hunting, hiking and some relaxing time with Ryan and Sadie will round out our weekend. I hope you guys have a good one!

Things I’m Loving Friday

  • Online Consignment Websites

thredUp Consignment

I recently received my first payment from thredUP after sending in a big bag of clothes and made $75! I am pretty pumped! I was previously sending the unwanted clothing I had that was still in good condition to Twice and after using both websites here is my over all impression: You get more money for your clothes through Twice but thredUP (<—Affiliate link that also gives you $10 off your first purchase!) accepts more brands. (Note: It seems like thredUP has a great system in place that pays you more for more expensive items, but I’ve never sold anything that’s extremely valuable like a designer handbag, so I cannot speak to this first-hand.) Using both websites seems like a happy medium!

  • Lululemon Clothing from Twice

lululemon sports bra lime green

lululemon purple tank

There’s no denying that lululemon makes some ridiculously cute workout apparel. Unfortunately it also often comes with a hefty price tag and while sometimes I think it’s worth the splurge, I’ve been pretty psyched to find like-new lululemon apparel for sale on Twice! (<—Affiliate link that also gives you $10 off your first purchase!) I’ve purchased more than a few workout tops (like the two seen above) for around $22 and all have been in wonderful condition. (Seriously, I wonder whether or not they’ve even been worn!) If you’re in the market for more affordable lululemon apparel, check it out!

  • Rainy Night

It’s been raining non-stop since 8 p.m. yesterday. While I’m ready for the rain to go away today (Sadie is, too!), going to sleep to the sound of raindrops was pretty sweet last night. (Thankfully it wasn’t accompanied by thunder and lightning so Sadie wasn’t a total nut-job.) The pitter-patter of the rain made our little apartment feel awfully cozy! In Florida, I’m used to bouts of intense downpours followed by sunshine, so this non-stop rain business is a little crazy to me!

  • Seaweed Snacks

Seaweed Snacks

I know this will probably gross some of you out, but these seaweed snacks are a favorite of mine! They’re perfectly salty and if you’re a big-time sushi lover, I think you would enjoy the flavor. My two favorites are GimMe Organic Teriyaki Roasted Seaweed Snacks (<— Way cheaper on Amazon than at the grocery store!) and Annie Chun’s Sesame Seaweed Snacks.

  • Shoebox by PJ Loughran

A good friend of mine from high school put this on a CD for me years ago and it’s still a favorite. It has a Dave Matthews vibe to me, but it’s slightly more upbeat. If you’re looking for some chill music that’s also super catchy, I think you may enjoy it! (I could only find a live version on YouTube and I couldn’t find the album-version on iTunes either, but Amazon has the full version.)

  • Midi Skirts and Dresses

black white print midi dress

I am in love with maxi dresses and maxi skirts, but midi skirts are giving both a run for their money. Since I am a fairly tall girl (I’m 5’7’’) I often feel like some of the maxi dresses hit in a super weird spot and are too short, so when I started to find midi skirts and dresses that are supposed to hit above the ankle, I was in heaven! They’re long enough to look romantic and flowy but short enough not to drag on the floor and show off super cute shoes! Love ‘em!

Some favorites:

  • Casual Strappy Midi Dress (Super cheap and you can receive 25% of with the code SUNFUN!)
  • Printed Halter Midi Dress (Love the open back – perfect for a beach cover up!)
  • White Sheer Inset Midi Skirt (The sheer peek-a-boo part of this skirt is so fun!)
  • Solid Black Midi Skirt (Affordable and a great daytime skirt!)

Oh how I miss the rain! It is very rare we get it in southern Ca… I’m loving a mid-afternoon pick me up of green tea this week! So good!

Emily it’s amazing how you’re perspective changes based on where you live. I live in Buffalo and we’ve had a pretty rainy summer and I’m sick of it. In the winter we seem to get a lot of the white fluffy stuff as well and near the end of winter I’m shoveled out. At the same time I agree on the green tea pick me up!

      Hi Julie!
One thing I’m loving this week? Well it’s been pretty tough actually. But I am going to have a nice, chill weekend that may involve berry picking at a local farm! So that’s pretty cool.

Don’t know if you remember but I commented about my dog Indy yesterday- it means a lot to me that you responded! Well the prognosis is very poor, and she’s going to be tested in a few hours and we’ll know more. She’s going to be discharged around 5pm today and she’ll be heading home no matter what. Please pray for a pain-free evening and weekend for my doggie 🙁 but it’s seeming more and more likely that it’s her time to go play with the dogs in heaven.

You’ve just inspired me to add “go through my closet” to my to-do list for today so I can sell some stuff to ThredUp or Twice. I love the idea and I KNOW I have stuff in my closet that I don’t wear/use anymore that someone else may love.

So glad you have a fun weekend planned! Have a great time with the ladies tonight!

Also, I’ve heard really good things about Twice but am disappointed that all their Lululemon is always an XS. I’ve been waiting for a medium/size 6 or 8 to pop up for weeks! There’s some great deals for smaller girls though!

I’ll have to try out those sites! Also, I’m a total seaweed snack lover as well 🙂 Sometimes a little crunch can be so satisfying!

I was totally skeptical, but there haven’t been any stains, weird/lingering smells or anything funky on anything I’ve received so far (plus, there are free returns, so I figured it was worth a shot). I totally get feeling sketched out about it though and definitely know it’s not for everyone.

That’s so funny. I’m 5’7″ too and don’t consider myself tall. I had a friend in college, 5’11”, that had trouble finding pants that fit her (before internet shopping). I never have to have pants lengthened or shortened so I’ve always considered myself average height. Guess it’s all perspective. Growing up with sisters who all turned out taller than me must have given me a different viewpoint.

Yeah I’ve always felt tall because I’ve been taller than nearly all of my friends and my sister. In general I feel like I’m taller than most women I meet (I think the average woman is 5’4”).

I am finally getting a Pure Barre-I have been wanting one forever-I danced and did pilates when I was younger and haven’t gotten back into with working and grad school so thought Pure Barre would be a great workout. Just curious about your thoughts about how frequent to go-is it realistic to go every day or should it be more of a every other day type thing? Just curious on your opinion. Thanks!

I am not a registered dietitian. My blog is simply a documentation of my life. The views I express are mine alone, based on my own experiences, and should not be taken as medical advice. I DO NOT post everything I eat. Though I am a certified personal trainer, the workouts I post may not be right for you. Please speak with a medical professional before making any changes to your current routine.
